Needle felted maltipoo bichon, Chibi

It's been a while since I needle felted, and this time, I made Chibi!
Chibi's been a great inspiration for me to make things with these days since I miss him a lot.. =( But soon, I will be able to bring him to Korea and live with him again, so yay!

Anyhow, here are the steps on how I made Chibi.

First, I made simple shapes of the head, body, and the legs all separate.

Then, I attached the legs to the body and made sure they are pretty firm, so they stay in position.

I added the snout to the head and attached it to the body.

Added the ears and some indications of the face.
(And I changed his pose to sit)

Added eyes and the nose. I didn't have the plastic eyes and the nose, but I've seen some of the needle felted dogs that used the plastic ones and they look more realistic.

Added more wool on top of his nose and trimmed along the mouth to resemble Chibi's hair.

Add little bit of light pink for the mouth.

I added one more layer of wool all over to make his hair look more fluffy.
It can look a little messy, but you can lightly brush the hair with a comb.

Here's my finished Chibi!
Do you think he looks like real Chibi? =)

Chibi as Pop Art

It was my sister-in-law's birthday a few weeks ago, and since we live across the ocean, I had to think of a nice gift that I can get online.

And I found out that you can create customized iphone cases from case-mate.com with your own pictures!

All you need to do is upload your image, and you can scale and position the image however you'd like!

I created this artwork using our dog, Chibi's photo to put on the iphone case.

I started with this photo of Chibi, and it's really easy to create a pop art look in photoshop!

Isn't he cute? =D
To create a pop art style image like I did, you need to select along the image using the lasso tool, and delete the background.
Then add another layer on the bottom and fill with any color you want.

Go to "Filter- Cut out" and you can see that your image is stylized into a simple cut out image. You can select how far you want to push the cut out
to make your image more abstract.

Then I decided to add initials on the bottom to make it more personal =)
Ta-da!
I sent it using my account in Amazon, which was very convenient, and my sister-in-law received it in about a week! She was so happy with my gift!

And Chibi likes it too =)

Sketch inspired by Givenchy Fall 2012 Couture dress

When I saw the Givenchy Fall 2012 couture collection, I was wow-ed by how beautiful the dresses were and wanted to draw them!

I love the sheers and all the embellishments on the dresses!

I started sketching with pencil very roughly and scanned into photoshop to add some colors.
I feel like whenever I erase the messy lines and the smudges from the sketch, it kind of looses the feel from the original sketch on the paper. I wish photoshop can automatically clean up the images just the way I like it! =D
I actually like this version with rough pencil and just touches of color, but I wanted to show the sheer skirt part of the dress, so I added a bright color background and made the dress blue =)

Here is the fully colored version! Which one do you like? =)

Disney Characters - Sketches

I was looking through my old sketchbook and realized how long I've been abandoning my sketches inside, so I scanned some of them to post them here =)

And also realized I should be doing more sketches from now on!

I think the hardest thing about creating new artwork is to find an inspiration for it.
It seems like you always end up drawing the same thing that you like, or something that you're confident about drawing it.. then everything starts looking the same..
Which isn't a bad thing, but these days, I feel challenged to explore new styles and new inspirations to experiment with.
Maybe it's just a homework for all artists that never ends.

Here are some Disney character sketches from my sketchbook from few years ago =)

Tinkerbell and a bunny fairy

Cinderella and her glass slippers

Ariel

summer girl sketch

Sorry it's been so long since I updated the blog!
I'm back from my trip to LA and now back to freelancing at home..
While I was browsing on the internet for some ideas, I found a picture of a pretty girl in a cool swim suit and wanted to draw her! I exaggerated the pose little bit and added my style into the drawing =) By the way, I love the tribal pattern on her swim suit! I wish summer time gets here soon!
