Disney Girls Illustration

The thing I love about Disney characters is that they are very iconic.
Cinderella's blue dress, Minnie's polka dots, Belle's rose, Ariel's red hair, and so on..
I also love seeing the iconic characters done in different styles.

These sketches below are my twist on Cinderella, Minnie, Tink, and Alice's iconic outfits, done in fashion illustration style!

Start Line Exhibition collaboration

Back in August, I participated in a collaboration project with the Coolrain Studio.
Coolrain is the most famous figure artist in Korea, well-known for his
NBA figure series by Mindstyle.

The artists of the Coolrain studio create their own characters and bring them to life by turning them into collectible figures, all made by hand!

At their 2nd exhibition, "Start Line", "Running Horns" figures created by the artist, UpTempo, were shown, along with the collaboration pieces done by other Korean artists, including me! =)

These are the "Running Horns" characters by UpTempo.

And here's my collaboration piece =)
I call it "Little Horns" =)

Please visit Coolrain and UpTempo's page and give them big support!

Sketch inspired by Givenchy Fall 2012 Couture dress

When I saw the Givenchy Fall 2012 couture collection, I was wow-ed by how beautiful the dresses were and wanted to draw them!

I love the sheers and all the embellishments on the dresses!

I started sketching with pencil very roughly and scanned into photoshop to add some colors.
I feel like whenever I erase the messy lines and the smudges from the sketch, it kind of looses the feel from the original sketch on the paper. I wish photoshop can automatically clean up the images just the way I like it! =D
I actually like this version with rough pencil and just touches of color, but I wanted to show the sheer skirt part of the dress, so I added a bright color background and made the dress blue =)

Here is the fully colored version! Which one do you like? =)

Girl with a heart

As I mentioned, I'm trying to do more sketches in my free time at home.
So here's a quick photoshop sketch in a few different color variations.

Disney Characters - Sketches

I was looking through my old sketchbook and realized how long I've been abandoning my sketches inside, so I scanned some of them to post them here =)

And also realized I should be doing more sketches from now on!

I think the hardest thing about creating new artwork is to find an inspiration for it.
It seems like you always end up drawing the same thing that you like, or something that you're confident about drawing it.. then everything starts looking the same..
Which isn't a bad thing, but these days, I feel challenged to explore new styles and new inspirations to experiment with.
Maybe it's just a homework for all artists that never ends.

Here are some Disney character sketches from my sketchbook from few years ago =)

Tinkerbell and a bunny fairy

Cinderella and her glass slippers

Ariel

summer girl sketch

Sorry it's been so long since I updated the blog!
I'm back from my trip to LA and now back to freelancing at home..
While I was browsing on the internet for some ideas, I found a picture of a pretty girl in a cool swim suit and wanted to draw her! I exaggerated the pose little bit and added my style into the drawing =) By the way, I love the tribal pattern on her swim suit! I wish summer time gets here soon!

Happy Holidays~

Less than 10 days left until Christmas is here!
I love seeing all the Christmas lights and trees everywhere I go around this
time of the year! And one good thing about being in Korea is that you can always expect to have a white Christmas! Something that I couldn't have while I was living in LA.

Just wanted to share some photos that I took this morning outside my place :)

Princess T-Shirts!

My brother and my sister-in-law were shopping in Disneyland and found this shirt at a store there! It's my other Snow White artwork from the Art of the Disney Princess book!
I love that they made the shirt very stylish and not just a plain shirt! It'll go great with a pair of skinny's or I can see it with a layer of racerback tees underneath!
I will have to get a lot of these when I visit LA since I never got a chance to buy the first "Pop Snow White" shirt :(
This was the first and the only time I saw the shirt with my "Pop Snow White" art printed on it.. I heard they were supposed to be sold at Kitson, but never found them =(
The artwork was on a scarf as well..
If anybody has seen these, could you please let me know? :)

Pop Princesses Prints available on ACME's website!

Wow, that was quick! It was only about twoweeks ago I mailed back the prints signed, and they're already up online for purchase! Good news!
This is the first time I've been asked to do artwork to be sold under my name, so it's very exciting for me! I wish they do well, and I'll work on more of my own to keep this pace going!

I was told that these are also going to be sold inside Disney Cruise ships!
I've never been on the cruise so I'm jealous of my prints going on the ships instead of me.. heh
If anybody's going on the Disney Cruise and happen to stumble upon my artwork, could you please take a picture for me? I'm curious to see how they're displayed inside the ship!

Amazing thing is, that I've already gotten a few people going through the trouble to find me online and email me how they love my artwork and commented on these new Pop Princess artwork! I feel so flattered and blessed to hear that my art can bring something special to other people, and I thank you so much for those who wrote me!xoxo

The Art of Disney Princess Gallery Event

To celebrate the launch of the book, a special gallery event was held at Zune LA where they displayed the artists' work and clothing/accessories that were inspired by the artwork!
Lots of people from the fashion industry and some of the celebrities came to the event.
Gallery area with the artists' work displayed. It was a good chance to meet the other artists at Disney who have contributed to the book.
The shirts and scarves were supposed to be sold at selected Kitson stores, but I still haven't found mine =( If anybody spots one, pls pls let me know! ;)
Me in front of my artwork! :)
Giant Cinderella dress made out of foil and paper and yummy finger foods!
How cool is this bathroom!!
I got to meet Lisa Loeb. She was so sweet and down to earth.
